Dr. Kristine Laderoute,
Ph.D., C. Psych.
Clinical Psychologist

As a psychologist, I have undergone stringent and intensive training and ongoing professional development to provide the quality of services that I offer.

Equally important, is that I am passionate about the work that I do and care deeply for my clients.

My passion is driven by empathy for people’s life experiences and stuck points, and admiration of their resilience and perseverance.

I approach my work both as a trained professional and as a person with my own lived experience - some of it very arduous.

Some of the things I most enjoy helping people get unstuck from are things that I have worked through (with help, of course!) along my ongoing journey of transforming my own life story.

For me, this journey has involved learning to tune into and steadfastly trust my intuition/inner knowing, and giving myself permission to be the most authentic version of myself possible.

I obtained both my M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from York University, and also hold a B.A. in Psychology (York University) and a B.Soc.Sc. in Criminology (The University of Ottawa). I have been registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario since 2008 for practice in the areas of clinical and counselling psychology with adults.

My clinical training spans various hospital and private practice settings. I completed my doctoral internship at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), having trained in the Eating Disorders and Addictions Clinic and the Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) Clinic. Simultaneous with my internship, I completed the Fundamental Psychoanalytic Perspectives program through the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society, a 36-week course in core psychoanalytic concepts. My postdoctoral year of supervised practice was carried out at the University Health Network’s (UHN) Eating Disorders Outpatient Program at Toronto General Hospital (TGH).

I regularly engage in continuing professional development by attending workshops, seminars and/or conferences, as well as participating in ongoing peer consultation. Of note, I have completed the Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) training (Primary Program), an education-based program about first responder mental health (now called The Working Mind First Responders), and most recently, I completed the Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Immersion course, an intensive training in AEDP.

In a volunteer capacity, I have passionately advocated for the implementation of increased psychological support for parents of medically-ill children in my role as a Family Advisor on the Family-Centred Care Advisory Council at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), since 2015. I am proud to have spearheaded a peer-to-peer support pilot program for parents of children being treated in the intensive care units there and have also participated in select engagements of the SickKids Mental Health Strategy.

I enjoy having a varied work life with clinical work as its core. I have worked in private practice since 2008, providing assessment, counselling and psychotherapy to individual adults.

In recent years, I have expanded my practice to provide consultation on the psychological integrity of fictional works in progress, including The Push and The Whispers by New York Times bestselling author, Ashley Audrain.

My volunteer work at SickKids has inspired me to further extend my services to enhancing psychological safety in group settings where this may be of benefit to members. I also enjoy contributing to the psychoeducation of the public through speaking engagements and written content.

A current intention is to re-engage in providing in-person group therapy.

No matter the capacity in which we work together, I strive to provide clients with insight that they didn’t have before and a path for transforming that insight into intention, action and growth.
